Jayden grew up walking past the same piles on the same corners in East Flatbush. Clean Blocks started as a simple question: what if the people who already notice the problem had somewhere to put what they see — and a way to show up together to fix it?
Clean Blocks is neighbor-led and independent. No agency, no company behind it — just a block that wants to be cleaner.
Why this exists
Environmental justice at the smallest scale: who has to live next to the pile, and whose complaints get treated as data.
What we hold to
Residents decide
Neighbors know which corner has been bad for two years. The platform is here to carry that knowledge, not overrule it.
AI assists, people judge
Photo classification is a first guess to save typing. Every category and severity can be corrected, and organizers review before anything is acted on.
Careful with location
Reports are shown at the cross-street level only. We don't publish exact addresses, and we don't build cases against neighbors.
Cleanups over complaints
A report that never turns into a bag picked up is just paperwork. Every report is meant to lead to a cleanup, a resource, or a story.
How the AI is used
A prototype classifier suggests a waste type and severity to shorten the form. Suggestions are always editable, never used for enforcement, and run locally in this prototype.
